Magayon Festival: Celebrating the Beauty and Culture of Albay
Every year, the people of Albay come together in the month-long Magayon Festival to celebrate the province’s beauty and bounty. The Magayon Festival was originally conceptualized to celebrate the legend of Mayon Volcano whose name was derived from the Bikol word ‘magayon‘ which means beautiful. Through the years, the Magayon Festival has evolved to celebrate the rich culture of the province of Albay as well as to honor the hospitality, strength and resilience of the Albayano.
The Magayon Festival returns on April 1-30, 2009. This is actually the 11th year of the festival which was revived in 2008 after a 2 year hiatus following the destructive typhoons that struck the province. This year’s Magayon Fest promises a more colorful, vibrant and exciting line up of events that will surely delight both locals and guests.
For locals, this is the best time to rediscover our beloved province. For tourists, this is the perfect time to enjoy dozens of activities and events as well as Albay’s beautiful destinations. For Albayanos living abroad, this is a great time to come back home and reconnect with your roots.
It will be a veritable feast for the senses in Albay come April with a dazzling array of events for just about everyone. View the Magayon Festival 2009 Calendar of Events [Download] and take your pick.
