The Bicol Region, particularly the Province of Albay, is rich in spectacular vistas and wondrous panoramas that are a delight for every photographer. From the postcard-perfect beauty of Mayon to the yet to be discovered destinations within the province, Albay offers an abundance of lovely photographic subjects. This April 17-20, 2009, amateur and professional photographers will get the chance to hone their photography skills while capturing some of Albay’s best views in the Bicol Destination Photography Workshop with Wig Tysmans – one of the country’s most sought-after corporate, fashion and advertising photographers.

His works, focusing mainly on portraiture and figure studies, have been exhibited both in and outside the Philippines. His photographs have been shown in magazines such as People Asia, the Philippine Tatler and Lifestyle Asia, and featured in books such as Sinaunang Habi, Bencab’s Rock Sessions, Malacanan Book by Nick Joaquin, Art Petron and Central Bank’s Ginto and Tanaw.

Bicol Itinerary
April 17 – Misibis Bay Resort (Friday)

4:30 am – Check in at the airport
6:00 am – Departure from Manila
6:55 am – Arrival in Legazpi
– Baggage claim
7:15 am – Land transfers to Embarcadero
7:45 am – Boat transfer to Misibis Bay
8:15 am – Arrival at Misibis Bay Resort
– Welcome drinks
8:30 am – Check in
9:00 am – Breakfast
10:00 am – Welcome remarks and briefing
11:00 am – Rest and Relaxation
12:00 pm – Tour of the resort
12:00nn – Lunch
1:30 pm – 4:00 pm – Photography Workshop
4:00 pm – 5:30 pm – Tour of the surrounding area of Misibis
5:30 pm – Back at the resort
7:00 pm – Rest and Relaxation
7:00 pm – Dinner

April 18 – Albay Tour (Saturday)

6am – Breakfast
6:45 am – Depart from Misibis Resort
7:30 am – Be magnetized by the charm of the majestic Mayon Volcano, considered to be the world’s most perfectly formed volcano for its symmetrical cone. Drive to Lignon Hills, the road leading to a viewing deck to take the best shot of Mayon Volcano.
– Capture the zipline glide in motion. Participants may also opt to try it out for a fee P200.
9:00 am – Depart for Cagsawa Ruins Church, popular for its bell tower, the only remaining structure of the lavish church buried in rocks and lava during the eruption in 1814.
– Photo shoot of local products on display within the compound of Cagsawa ruins. This is also a shopping opportunity for best local products that ranges from handwoven products to local delicacies.
9:45 am – Depart for Daraga Church, a baroque architectural masterpiece features intricate religious carvings in its façade, made entirely of volcanic rocks. It was built by Franciscan missionaries in 1773. This is where the Cagsawa churchgoers went to mass after their church was destroyed from the massive volcanic eruption. The church is located on a hillwhich gives a commanding view of Mayon Volcano.
11:30 am – Early lunch at Colonial Grill and try out their specialty Tinapa Rice together with authentic Laing and Bicol express.
1:30 pm – Visit to Albay Pili Nut Factory
1:45 pm – Depart for the abaca weaving factory. Witness the actual process of weaving the fine materials of abaca to preparation of packaging design for shipment to buyers.
3:00 pm – Cool down at DJC and savor their famous Halo Halo with cheese! It has a unique taste as they use coconut milk instead of the traditional cow’s milk. The addition of ube flavored macapuno is also interesting topped with creamy leche flan.
4:00 pm – Depart for the port to catch the boat for Misibis Bay
4:30 pm – Arrival at Misibis Bay Resort
4:30-7:00 – Rest and Relaxation
– Downloading and Editing of Images Taken
– Turn over of Images taken to event organizer
7:00 pm – Dinner time
7:30-9:00 pm – Critique Session

19 April 2009 (Sunday)

7:00 am – Breakfast
8:00 am – Depart for Boiling Lake, a naturally heated water from beneath the earth making it a perfect setting as a natural spa and steam bath.
– Tour of surrounding areas.
8:45 am – Arrival at Boiling Lake site
10:00 am – Culinary food set up in a rice field. Witness the actual cooking demonstration of preparing Bicol’s authentic cuisine from the quality of ingredients, preparation to actual cooking process.
12:00 nn – Packed Lunch and eating of actual food from the cooking demonstration.
3:00 pm – Back at the resort
3:00 pm – Rest and Relaxation
5:00 pm – Editing and Downloading of Images
5:00 pm – 7:00 pm – Critique Session
7:000 pm – Graduation Dinner

20 April (Monday)

8:00 am – Breakfast
9:00-11:00 am – Chill out time
11:00 am – Take a shower and prepare for check out
11:30 pm – Check out
12:00 pm – Depart from the resort
12:30 pm – Arrival in Embarcadero
12:45 pm – Arrival at the airport
1:40 pm – Departure from Legaspi
2:35 pm – Arrival in Manila
