Butanding Exhibit at Magayon Festival 2009

Sorsogon’s Butanding exhibit, which won the grand prix for best booth at the 2008 19th Philippine TravelMart is one of the major displays at the Magayon Festival of Albay. In a letter to Governor Sally A. Lee, Governor Joey Salceda of Albay invited the province of Sorsogon to take part in the festival “by way of showcasing the very impressive exhibit of Sorsogon which won during the Philippine TravelMart presented at the Gayon Bikol Fiesta.” It will be displayed at the Albay Provincial Lobby.

Salceda also said that putting up the Butanding exhibit at the Magayon Festival is a strategy that would make visitors “patronize the internationally known Whaleshark Interaction in Donsol”. The Magayon Festival commenced on April 1. The month-long celebration showcases Albay’s tourist attractions and destinations as well as its rich culture and arts heritage. The activities during the festival include a floral parade, fireworks display, and a regatta, among others.

Albay tops tax collection; emerges as investment hub in Bicol

Albay is emerging as the economic hub in the region as it continuously leads and surpasses its internal revenue collection goal among the six Bicol provinces, the local Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) office said. The BIR report revealed that of the P2.4-billion tax collected for the first semester of this year, P901 million or 37 percent came from Albay, followed by Camarines Sur with P787 million; Camarines Norte – P257 million; Masbate – P197 million; Sorsogon – P180 million and Catanduanes with P103 million.
