The Bicol Region is known for its Abaca-based products. The Abaca fiber, also known as Manila hemp, was extensively used during the 19th to 20th century as material for making ropes used in galleons and ships that sail that sail all over the world. The outer skin of the Abaca plant is peeled off thinly and dried under the sun.
