Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010 Venus Raj dethroned
Less than a month after she was crowned Bb. Pilipinas-Universe, Maria Venus Raj has been dethroned by the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. due to questionable birth records. Ms. Raj, 21, hails from Bato, Camarines Sur. She graduated cum laude from Bicol University with a degree in AB Journalism. Ms. Raj is also Albay’s youth ambassador on climate change.

According to Bb. Pilipinas PR Manager Jenny Inocencio-Marcial, there were inconsistencies in Venus Raj’s birth certificate. “Both Venus and her mother said she was born in Doha, Qatar, while yung na-submit nilang legal documents say she was born in the Philippines,” said Marcial. The dusky Filipino-Indian beauty was supposed to represent the Philippines in this year’s Miss Universe pageant. This early, she was already tipped as one of the favorites to win the crown.
In Bb. Pilipinas rules, when a titleholder is dethroned the first runner-up will replace her. However, this year’s 1st runner-up, Dianne Necio of Polangui, Albay is only 17 years old. The Miss Universe pageant’s age limit is 18 to 26 years old. Because of this rule, second runner-up winner, Helen Nicolette Henson will replace Ms. Raj as Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010.
The Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. released a statement regarding the dethronement:
“Today March 29, 2010, Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. decided, with a heavy heart, to let Bb. Pilipinas-Universe 2010 Maria Venus Raj go, after the organization discovered inconsistencies contained in her birth records, in contrast to her personal account of her birth.”
A similar incident happened in 1999 when Bb. Pilipinas-Universe winner Janelle Bautista was dethroned due to irregularities in her residency papers. Miriam Quiambao was asked to replaced her. Miriam went on to become the 1st runner-up in Miss Universe that year. Former winners Anjanette Abayari and Tisha Silang were also stripped of their Bb. Pilipinas-Universe titles due to citizenship issues.
There are petitions from Ms. Raj’s supporters urging the BPCI to reinstate Ms. Raj as this year’s Bb. Pilipinas-Universe titlist.

Pero sana hindi na siya gumamit pa ng TV Station Program, (“Wish ko Lang”) para lang ipaalam sa taong bayan sa buong Pilipinas ang kanyang katayuan. Bakit ngayun lang niya naisipan na sumulat sa ‘Wish ko Lang’ (GMA-7 Program), sa ganoong matagal na palang hirap ang pamilya niya sa Bicol? Then ngayun ipapakita niya sa taong bayan na hirap sila sa buhay at nang sa ganoon kaawaan siya ng Bb. Pilipinas Charities at nang buong Sangbayanan pilipino, at nang sa ganoon ay ibalik muli ang kanyang Korona? Ano ito gamitan, pulitika, kampanya, etc…
Bakit hindi niya suungin ang hamon ng Bb. Pilipinas Charities Inc. sa kagustuhan nila na makakuha siya ng Philippine Passport, at sa tingin ko hindi naman ganoong kabigat ang kahilingan na iyon para sa kanya ng Pilipinas Charities Inc.?
Sana maging aral ang pangyayaring ito sa lahat ng nag-nanais lumahok sa patimpalak na kahalintulad nito.

want to reply mr. orix comment. its venus “right” to used the media – specifically on the television(gma,the venue where pageant-coronation night was staged)you know, you have no right to question Ms.Venus decision to air her side by using such kind of media, and she just using her intelligence to let her voice be heard in the most effective way. if you are in her shoes, what will you do? “she’s just been honest since from the start of the start of the pageant, and that’s why most filipinos here and abroad are supporting her all the way. we love venus very much. she’s the perfect representative for Miss Universe 2010. with her integrity and credibility, it’s her weapon to fight against the detractors. Sa henerasyon natin ngayon parang hindi na pinapahalagahan ng mga filipino ang tunay na kagandahan ng isang tunay na filipina dahil nararamdaman ko mas matimbang pa sa kanila ang mga hindi tunay na filipino. Basta may dugong filipino kahit parang hindi naman totoo aangkinin parang lang sumikat ang lahing filipino. Dapat ipagmalaki natin kung anung klaseng lahi meron tayo. Para sa mga Filipino sana magising na kayo sa katotohanan na matagal na tayong pinamumunuan ng mga dayuhan.
Malaki ang chance ng ating kinatawan. Bilang isang Bicolana, kaya pa niyang higitan ang naabot ng Miriam Quiambao na isang ring Bicolana.
