The Province of Albay recently launched the 15th Magayon Festival, Bicol’s biggest and longest cultural festivity, which takes place from April 1-30 in Legazpi City.

Solar-powered Christmas tree lights up Legazpi City

Among the glittering Christmas trees that help light up Albay province at night this time of year, none probably could outgrow the one towering over 40 feet at the Albay Astrodome in the provincial capital Legazpi City. Environment-friendly, this Christmas tree was crafted out of empty drums of aviation fuel and is powered by solar energy. Reputedly zero-carbon and zero-waste, it was lit up for the first time on Wednesday as part of Gov. Joey Salceda’s efforts to raise awareness on negative effects of global warming and the need to minimize thinning of the ozone layer.
It’s a Green Christmas in Albay!
Already recognized and multi-awarded as a global model for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, the province Albay launched another pioneering policy in line with its provincial governance goal of environmental protection and climate change adaptation — the Green Christmas Initiative.

Climbing Up to Mayon’s Base Camp
Climbing up to the summit of the Philippines’s most active volcano is truly an experience of a lifetime. Climbing up to the level close to the summit or an area commonly referred to as the knife’s edge is for the intermediate-expert climber or for one who is very fit. It normally takes two days and one night to reach the summit and it is essential that one have a competent and knowledgeable local guide.
