The DTI, with the Department of Tourism (DOT) Bicol regional offices, will also bring in the trade fair “Gayon Bikol sa OK Bikol” featuring the best tourist destinations in the region, giving the event an appealing socio-cultural touch. “Featured products for this year’s Orgullo kan Bikol include wearables, home furnishings, gifts and holiday decors, and food with special setting on ‘bayong’, creative handicrafts, and OTOP”, Jocelyn L.B. Blanco, DTI Bicol regional director said.

Last year’s Orgullo kan Bikol | Photo by Leni Robredo

Blanco said amidst the many challenges that we are facing right now, we are still confident to generate sales of P10 million for the four-day trade fair. A total of 134 Bicolano entrepreneurs will sell their products to institutional buyers and the general public as well. Among the six provinces, Albay has the biggest number of exhibitors with 33 micro-small medium enterprises (MSMEs), followed by Camarines Sur with 24, Sorsogon with 14, Catanduanes nine, Camarines Norte six, and Masbate five.

Aside from the regular MSMEs assisted by DTI, 43 Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) beneficiaries/entrepreneurs will join the OKB. All these beneficiaries are assisted by DTI through the livelihood program under Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP). Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda, also the Bicol Regional Development Council chair, is expected to keynote the opening program at 10:00 a.m. on October 22, 1009 at SM Mega Mall.

OK Bikol is a project of the DTI-Region V, Department of Tourism (DOT)-Region V, OK Bikol Association, PhilExport Bicol and local government units (LGUs).(PNA)

The 6-hectare Landco Business Park is designed with advanced electrical and water systems, communication facilities, waste disposal system, extensive road network (16-meter wide roads and 12-meter secondary roads), flood-free development and easy access to the existing central business district of Legazpi.
The centerpiece of the business park is the Landco Pacific Mall, the first full-sized mall in the entire Bicol region offering a selection of national local retail shops, restaurants, salons, boutiques as well as a Metro Gaisano Department Store and Supermarket as its anchor store, two state of the art cinemas, food court and amusement center. Today, the Landco Pacific Mall is the premier shopping destination in Legazpi.

The Metro Gaisano Legazpi is the first Gaisano Department store outside Cebu, where the company has its roots. Legazpi City was chosen because of its ideal location south of Luzon and its accessibility to the population of the Bicol region comprising of the five provinces. The Metro Legazpi is now the premier department store and supermarket destination in the city with its large multi-level store, cool shopping atmosphere, colorful visuals, quality goods, reasonable prices and ample parking spaces.

The Landco Pacific Mall is a hub for shopping and entertainment, attracting 35,000 visitors per day from Legazpi City, Sorsogon, Masbate, Catanduanes and the Camarines Provinces. To accomodate more tenants and expand the mall’s entertainment and amusement area, the Landco Pacific Mall underwent a major expansion in 2006. An activity center was also built.

The Landco Business Park is directly accessible from the adjacent LKY Metro Terminal and Lifestye Hub and the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation through an access road with covered walkway. Today, the Landco Busines s Park is almost 80% sold out with prime lots still up for grabs.
Embarcadero at Night | Photo by Marius Patrick Encinareal

The Embarcadero will offer a mix of retail, restaurants, markets, and shops. There will also be a civic space and an imposing 30-meter tall lighthouse that could become one of the iconic symbols of Legazpi. Aside from the 12,000 square meter commercial area, there will also be a future 14,500 square meter waterfront hotel, spa and convention center and a 15,477 square meter Information Technology (IT) Park, envisioned to provide thousands of BPO jobs for Bicolanos.

Embarcadero will be a waterfront promenade, with theatrical lighting and performance spaces creating a lively, family friendly environment during the day and at night. Visitors to Embarcadero will enjoy a stunning view of the mighty Mayon Volcano and the cityscape to the north and the Albay Gulf to the east.

This new development is a welcome addition to the city’s growing list of shopping and entertainment destinations including LCC Mall, Landco Pacific Mall, A. Bichara Silverscreens, and the soon to open LKY Lifestyle Hub adjacent to the new integrated terminal. The opening of the IT park is also highly-anticipated, especially by Bicolanos looking for jobs.

For Embarcadero’s soft opening, two restaurant tenants namely Kitaro and Tapa King started operations. The SLTCFI BPO Incubation Center also opened its new office. Meanwhile, the newest branch of Bigg’s Diner, Bicol’s homegrown chain of restaurants will open on July 24. Other confirmed tenants are Gerry’s Grill, Padi’s Point, Mang Inasal, Harbour Wok, La Mia Tazza Cafe, Pancit Malabon Express, F2M, Giordano, Cinderella, Adidas, Lots’a Pizza, Casa Nostra Bar and Restaurant, Plains and Prints, Pacific Dive, Chill Bar, Mercury Drug, Bowling Lanes, Dampa-style restaurants and more.

Construction work is still ongoing at the Embarcadero and it is expected to be completed later this year. The grand opening of Embarcadero is reportedly slated later this year.

The P150-million modern terminal is touted as the first of its kind in the entire country – a showcase of what future transport terminals should be. The new terminal, dubbed as LKY Metro Transport and Lifestyle Hub, is built on a 3.9-hectare land located right in the geographical center of the city’s urban area.

Perspective of LKY Metro Transport and Lifestyle Hub

It will feature several structures comprising the jeepney and filcab terminals, bus terminal, commercial spaces, and a lifestyle hub that is envisioned as a new shopping and entertainment destination for locals and tourists alike. Wilbert Lee, president of LKY Group, said the new terminal “will become a one-stop-shop catering to all the transport and lifestyle needs of the Legazpi market.”

The LKY Metro Transport and Lifestyle Hub will have an avant-garde design and efficient layout. This will be the first transport terminal in the country with a computerized entry-exit system to ensure a fast, efficient and organized terminal operation. Every driver will be given a swipe card that will serve as access card into the terminal. The system is hooked to several TV monitors installed in the waiting areas that will inform passengers of the arrival and departure of their bus, jeepney or filcab.

A well-planned and efficient layout will ensure the free flow of all vehicles to and from the terminal as well as within. The terminal will be accessible via four entry and exit points: two along F. Imperial St., along Tahao Road and via the access road to the Landco Business Park. There are also ample spaces for ticketing booths. The terminal will be a regional transport hub servicing not only the province of Albay but also the entire Bicol peninsula and beyond.

Site Development Plan of LKY Metro Transport and Lifestyle Hub

The new terminal promises to make commuting a breeze, with its strategically located waiting areas, food stalls and fast food joints serving freshly-cooked meals, and three clean, and well-maintained toilets. A passenger’s lounge will also be built offering a clean rest area for a fee for businessmen on the go complete with pay showers, lockers and a lounge.

The central terminal will not just be a transit point but a destination on its own. A new lifestyle hub adjacent to the terminal is expected to become a place to relax and be entertained, not only for road-weary travelers but also for the locals of Legazpi. The lifestyle hub is inspired by the Bonifacio High Street development in the Bonifacio Global City.

Retail stores, restaurants, cafes, bars and other business establishments enclose a central courtyard with landscaping and fountain. Some of the restaurant/cafe locators that will reportedly open in the LKY Metro Transport and Lifestyle Hub include Jollibee (will be the fourth branch in the city), Chowking (will be the 2nd branch), KFC and Mocha Blends.

The lifestyle hub offers opportunities for local businessmen. Commercial spaces are available for lease with rates that are lower than in malls. No percentage of sales will be required from locators.

The construction of the LKY Metro Transport and Lifestyle Hub was implemented through a build-operate-transfer (BOT) agreement between the city of Legazpi and LKY Group. Thus, the terminal was built without a single centavo coming from the city government. As a BOT project, it is completely funded by LKY Group and will be turned over to the government after 40 years. Lee revealed that LKY Group will also build a similar terminal in Tacloban City.

When in Bicol, one should never miss shopping for abaca products – the region’s signature product. And when it comes to abaca-based products, Gallerias de Legaspi is one of the best sources in the whole of Bicol. Gallerias De Legaspi specializes in handmade Abaca Handicrafts, mostly stylish bags. It is a factory outlet of a well-known exporter to such names as Esprit and Nine West. Each bag takes up to 48 hours to make by hand.

The Bicol Region is known for its Abaca-based products. The Abaca fiber, also known as Manila hemp, was extensively used during the 19th to 20th century as material for making ropes used in galleons and ships that sail that sail all over the world. The outer skin of the Abaca plant is peeled off thinly and dried under the sun. The fibers are then expertly dyed & woven by hand to produce the beautiful bags, placemats, hats, fiberart and other houseware handicrafts.

Gallerias de Legaspi is located just a few meters away from the Legazpi Domestic Airport for convenient shopping especially for visitors and tourists.
