The Museo de Legazpi’s journey sprang from a deep desire to preserve Legazpi City’s rich legacy. It underwent a significant transformation when it moved from its humble origins within the City Hall’s annex building to a revitalized home in the Gregorian Mall. Officially opened to the public on March 28, 2019, the museum, under the passionate guidance of Legazpi City native and curator Mr. Darlito Perez, embarked on a mission to illuminate the city’s heritage through a captivating display of artifacts and artworks.

The museum has a history of hosting notable exhibitions beyond its permanent collection. These temporary displays have broadened the museum’s reach and offered visitors unique perspectives on Legazpi and the Philippines. For instance, in July 2019, the museum presented a special exhibit dedicated to Pope John Paul II’s visit to Albay in 1981. Additionally, it showcased the National Costume of Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray, a dazzling creation inspired by the majestic Mayon Volcano.
